SOMNIA-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS

1. Dreams are how Sleep chooses you. What might draw your character into Somnia — a wound, a wish, a weakness? Would they follow the dream, or run from it?

Certainly, there is something admirable about fighting against an entity drawing him into a dream. He wouldn't see any reason, because he would be curious as to see what might happen. While he doesn't have any deep wish or wound, he is fascinated about how the currents of fate roll. Perhaps, what draws him is the desire of seeing if he can actually grow attached to something beyond himself. That alone would be worth his full and complete interest.

2. Somnia is a slow unraveling—of worlds, and of selves. How does your character respond to fear, transformation, and losing control? Do they fight, adapt, collapse?

There isn't much that Yuuto fears beyond the unknown. He didn't feel frightened when trapped in a barrier where the only way he could leave would be to kill the user; he rarely is troubled about fighting to the death; he doesn't balk at being injured since he considers that par the course considering what he's involved in. But yes, he does fear the unknown.

When encountering the arrival of Monou Fuuma, he is the first to call off the fight. He is someone who is quick to adapt to ensure the best possible results for himself (and if it also benefits the other person, so be it). When Satsuki is violently ejected from BEAST, he screams out to catch her in surprise and concern. However, she is quick to laugh the whole matter off -- and his concern immediately fades away. (It may be the concern itself was only there for her benefit than anything he felt himself.)

However, he does what he can to adapt to the situation that is in front of him. But he does what he can to be cautious about what he should be doing. Still, if the person isn't troubled, why should he be? If the situation can be resolved peacefully to ensure minimal damage, why not?

'Course, he knows when such methods won't work. When he goes to save Nataku from Karen, he asks her if she'll back off first, but she doesn't believe he's going to give up on his own. He understands her distrust and accepts that the fight is inevitable.

In short, he tries to be a flexible as he can while still being cautious.

3. Connection is the only constant. What kind of bonds does your character form — fast and burning, slow and wary, deep and desperate? How might that shape their time in this world?

People that have met Yuuto generally feel positively toward him. They often seem to have deeper connection to him than what he feels in return.

Sometimes, it seems like he is manipulating the relationship and emotions of those that know him to view him in a positive light. He brings first-rate sweets to the office; he remembers the names of all his colleagues. He warmly greets and treats everyone who comes to his window at the ward office. Anyone who asks his advice, he gives a heartfelt statement. Yet he's also, in part, assisting with the genocide of all humanity.

When he meets Sorata and Karen, he is complimentary of them. He speaks only positively to them and they respond in kind rather than take his comments as snide remarks (but that may very well be their personalities). But actively tries to kill both of them. With Satsuki, he is slowly teaching her how to embrace her humanity; he's giving her points to ruminate on. But he doesn't do more than offer words than pave the way; he wants her to make the decision herself.

One could say he cares about her, but he doesn't care about her enough.

The same could be said about Kanoe. He's aware of why she's doing what she's doing; he's one of the few people that she's trusted with her reasoning. But he never asked; he cares but did not cherish her enough to ask her on her own. And he doesn't do anything to comfort her fear about Kamui; he doesn't do more than offer placating words about her love for her sister. They're in an intimate relationship, but they both treat it as a matter of course rather than any romance.

Simply, he has it so people think well of him, but his own emotions are only as far as to ensure the relationship remains relatively pleasant. Even if he has to kill them.

4. What are two major forces in your character’s personality that are often in conflict? (Ex: logic vs emotion, power vs guilt, obedience vs rage, etc.)

Apathy versus empathy are often in conflict with what he says and does.

Yuuto saves Nataku yet the two of them have never conversed before. He willingly let himself be put in a perilous situation to protect them. Yet doesn't seem to request any reward or further compensation in friendship or otherwise. It doesn't seem like anyone asked him to do this, so it may very well have been a whim.

Yet later, he finds out the area Karen fought Nataku and him ended up falling to the Dragons of Earth; he only comments that she will probably be upset. However, he doesn't seem any more upset than someone finding out their favorite dessert in a cafe has sold out. It's unfortunate, but nothing life-shattering for him. Despite the hundreds to thousands of lives that are lost.

He watches as Satsuki berates and mentally breaks Yuzuriha down with her questioning as to why it is wrong to kill humans. Satsuki uses BEAST to kill Yuzuriha's spiritual companion and further traumatize the fourteen-year-old. Yuuto only comments that the questions that Satsuki asked were quite difficult and rough, but his own answer for why killing is wrong? Because someone would grieve. He then asks if she's ready to go to tea.

As mentioned, he presents something like sympathy and something like empathy to other people. He talks about how he understands their feelings (and he really seems like he does!) but it ultimately doesn't affect him too deeply one way or the other.

VESSEL SELECTION
Which Vessel Type are you choosing: Token or Offering? Token.
Why does this Vessel type feel appropriate for your character? Yuuto continues to adhere to social niceties even when it "no longer matters." Simply, he's not yet willing to give up the shape of being a human despite what he's decided to align himself with.
Choose one OR list three subclass options within your chosen Vessel type that you think would suit them: Bloodwright (while aquamancer probably suits him better due to being a watermaster in canon, thought it would be better to give him something else that would need him to suffer to use).
